Standing for justice, building community
Since 1913 Butler McDermott Lawyers has built a proud history of standing for justice and building community in Nambour and further afield.
Leading by example is the firm’s director Peter Boyce, an inspiring figure in Nambour, seen widely as the small-town solicitor who helped put sex offender and murderer Peter Cowan behind bars when he represented Palmwoods couple Bruce and Denise Morcombe in their son Daniel’s inquest.
Mr Boyce has worked out of Nambour since March 19, 1977 and been a partner at Butler McDermott since July 1, 1977. Nowadays he is assisted by seven solicitors, five law clerks and 11 support staff, offering a full suite of legal services from the purpose-built offices in William Street.
“Whether it be for business or personal law matters, we offer clear advice and common sense solutions to our clients’ legal problems,” Mr Boyce said. “Being a regional firm we practice in most areas of the law because we like to be there when people need us, no matter what the problem.”
Many clients have remained with the firm for generations, highlighting Butler McDermott’s focus on personal, professional and prompt service.
“We recognise we are in a service industry and it is extremely important to make sure clients feel comfortable and confident in the work we do for them. We appreciate and thank everyone for their support over the years and we certainly look forward to that continuing well into the future.”
Mr Boyce is passionate about all aspects of law and enjoys helping young professionals enter the field.
“There are many wonderful new lawyers working for the firm, ably supported by law clerks,” he said. “Three of them are about to be admitted and the others are still studying. They all pride themselves on providing service to our clients whose interests are paramount.”
For years the legal team has been involved in various aspects of local life through community work, sponsorship and support of local activities. “We dedicate some of our time, legal services and resources to helping local organisations, associations, charities and interest groups that would otherwise be unable to afford the expense of legal work,” Mr Boyce said.
Mr Boyce leads the way as Chairperson of Reimagine Nambour, Wishlist and Sunshine Coast Turf Club, founding Board Member of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and past Chairperson of rugby league clubs on the Sunshine Coast.
